About Pocket Pet Pouch

EST. November 2018

Hi there, I'm Jess, the little (half blind) seamstress behind Pocket Pet Pouch. Every package you receive from us is personally created and packed by me with the occasional help from my sisters and Dad. With my background as a professional tailor and seamstress, I found an unexpected joy in brainstorming fresh themes for each box, aiming to bring delight to both you and your prickly companions. My affection for hedgehogs started around 2015 when I became involved as a pet sitter, fosterer, and rescuer of African Pygmy hedgehogs through The Hedgehog Welfare Society.

Where did the idea for Pocket Pet Pouch originate? Well, it all started with my own hedgehogs and my frustration with the limited product options available at most pet stores. I was determined to create safely stitched items that my hedgies could enjoy and figured they would also bring joy and excitement to fellow hedgehog enthusiasts. I began sewing and selling snuggle sacks on Etsy and soon, what was supposed to be just a hobby, developed into my absolute passion. PocketPetPouch.

I initially opted for the subscription model as it allowed me to accurately gauge the quantity of fabric and supplies required in advance, enabling me to plan efficiently for my sewing projects. You wouldn't believe the fabric wastage I have witnessed and contributed to when I worked in tailoring. So, I feel I have to do my best to commit to minimizing waste which extends to the packaging as well. You might have noticed that your packages typically feature simple boxes, reusable crinkle or tissue, adorned with basic stickers & washi tape. I prioritize the use of paper packaging whenever possible to promote sustainability. I will admit, I sometimes use plastic cello bags (some of them are just too cute to resist) so I hope you all don't mind and are able to reuse or recycle those as well. I also use poly-mailers to protect your shipments from the hustle and bustle of their journey to you.

Beyond my role at Pocket Pet Pouch, my personal life is a whirlwind of activity. My free-time consists of cooking dinners with friends or my retired parents. Winter game nights or summer day trips with my 6 siblings and their families. Caring for my chickens, wine tastings with friends, browsing second hand shops, gardening, roaming craft stores for inspiration, checking out your hedgie posts on instagram, browsing reddit, and immersing myself in audiobooks as I sew.

My dedication to both hedgehogs, their owners, and my business is my priority. I hope that is evident in every single package we send out. Your support means the world to me, especially because it encourages me to keep sewing and come up with more silly or cute ideas for your sleepy, grumpy, adorable, curious hedgies. I'm committed to making sure each Pocket Pet Pouch experience is filled with smiles and care. Thank you for joining me on this prickly but fun journey!
